The Salmon in the Classroom Program
Our mission is to engage Clark County students, parents, and community members in positive environmental stewardship through increased awareness of the unique salmon life cycle and habitat requirements.
The Salmon in the Classroom program is funded by Clark Public Utilities and managed by the Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center. It was created in 1991 by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to provide students an opportunity for hands-on environmental education. By studying salmon habitat, water quality, and the salmon themselves, students can learn about the interrelationships of species within their local watershed. In learning how to protect the salmon's environment, the students are ultimately learning how to protect their own environment.
All schools, public and private, throughout Clark County are welcome to participate in the Salmon in the Classroom Program. We do, however, prioritize schools that are not yet participating.
